I’ve been getting quite a few e-mails from people asking if I’m going to “do” that crazy National Blog Posting Month thing again, and the answer is: YES.
I moved the mothership over to nablopomo.com.
The idea is that whoever wants to can sign up over there, which will add your site to the official site so everyone can find you and your site! And watch you blog on it! Every day FOR A WHOLE MONTH!!!
I think it’s something called “social networking.” Have you heard of it?
I did this because last year I permanently damaged my arm coding endless amounts of HTML to add everyone’s links to the original NaBlo page — seriously, my elbow still hurts if I move it this one way. And I had like three volunteers helping me! I also gained five pounds from all the sitting and the coding. Oh, and the doughnuts.
Anyway, I know it’s early, this whole thing doesn’t start until November, but I know some of you are going to get itchy and start making lists of things to post about so you don’t run out of ideas, and I’m all for enabling any amount of OCD symptoms you want to let run out of control.
The site that’s organizing all this information for us is called Ning and they provide all sorts of participatory options. You can post video to NaBlo! You can post music! You can post photos! You can start groups and discussions and all that crap. It’s awesome, in a way, if everyone is into it. I just felt like if people were going to be as intense about it as they were last year then there ought to be as many channels as possible for all the energy this thing generates.
So we’ll try meeting Ning for this year, see what happens. If it turns out that all that is unnecessary and no one wants to use it, we’ll take a step back and simplify. It’s all about the blogging, after all.
I hope you’ll think about joining. I don’t even know how many people we had doing it last year, maybe about 2,000.
Now, about those prizes for the random drawing. All the people who donated prizes last year were total champs (including, as it happens, Heather Champ). They were generous beyond belief, shipped out their prizes in a timely manner, and added a frisson of giddy anticipation to the whole endeavor. If you’re interested in offering a prize this year, e-mail me (nablopomo {at} gmail {dot} com). I’ll announce more about that as it takes shape.
Okay, that’s it for now. Wow, I had some crazy full moon-style dreams last night and I am really looking forward to my appointment with my shrink this afternoon.

I signed up!
So far it seems great! Very user-friendly and clean-looking. The badges are cool, too. Especially the customization.
GOOD. I’m glad to know it’s working out so far.
Aha! You are so smart to use Ning. It’s perfect for this sort of thing.
Thank you! I wanted to do this last year, but I missed the sign-up and got in over my head a little with the NaNo.
I’m signed up! I’m already biting my nails in anticipation! Or maybe I’m nervous because that’s because I have nothing to feed my kids for dinner and I can’t seem to get off the interest.
Because that’s because…jeesh. I need an anxiety pill and a margarita.
Can I ask a dumb question–are we posting there? or does it just link to where we normally write?
Thanks…
Not dumb! You post at YOUR site every day during November, but you can also post to the community site if you feel like it. Just joining will help people to find you, though.
Sweet Chicken Tonight, I’m excited! I can’t wait for the writer’s block Mrs. Kennedy!
Not dumb, Sarah!
I was just fiddling around for that answer myself.
This will be my second year of NaBloPoMo, but I was feelin’ lost already!
Thanks, Eden! I can’t wait for the scrambling-to-post that always ensues. It’s great.
Argh!!!
“social networking” is firewalled!
I’ll have to see you at home.
WooHoo! I just signed up. I didn’t find your blog until mid November last year so I was unable to participate. I can’t wait for November!
Just signed up for year #2. WOOHOO! This is going to be great! Let the mental block begin.
Yes! My 2nd year and I’m number 100 to sign up. Thanks for the heads-up!
We’ll eventually get sidebar badges, right?
I want more badges! I’m so thrilled this is going to happen again; I am so looking forward to November now;>
Yup, I’m up for it again and have already signed up. Last years’ go-round got me blogging like mad and I’ve been near daily ever since.
holy christ. never say never, but at this point my feeling on it is like natural childbirth: it was one thing to go into it the first time, not knowing what I was getting myself into; it’s another to face it again after having done it.
will someone be giving away benzadrine?
I think I’ll take a crack at it.
I’m #133! Or #136. I’m #13-something. I’ll be blogging and knitting my first sweater for someone older than eight weeks.
So excited. I fully expect to fail this time (due to give birth in October) but I can’t give up yet. It was such a great experience last time. Even when it sucked. Like every night around 10 PM.
Thank you for all your OCD-enabling help. But this year I’m going to be SO totally all mellow about it.
I’m in…
Oh god what have I done?
Just signed up for the first time. Only been blogging for a couple of weeks. I must confess to being a wee bit scared!
You are awesome.
To everyone who didn’t do this last year: don’t worry, you’ll be fine. You can do it.
Woo! Just signed up. I can’t wait to do it again!
Thanks, Mrs. Kennedy! I came to blogging after all the cool kids had been doing it for years, so I discovered last year’s NaBloPoMo reading through other people’s archives last spring. I feel like such a joiner now! If only Bad News Hughes would do it, I could die a happy man…
Signed up. This is actually kind of easy for me since it’s one of my main goals to post every single day anyway, unless I am in the hospital or out of the country. But, I will change my goal for November to post better than crap every day, how’s that???
Mrs. Kennedy, you rock! Thank you so much for taking the time to set all of that up.
Sweet. I’m in again!
Uhmmm, are you all insane? Since I have made it National Don’t Get All Insane About the Blog Year, I think I’ll pass on the 30 days of posting. My husband would leave me, my children starve, the dog would take up with the neighbors and my novel would fester. Can’t do it, but wish you all wisdom and creative flow for November.
Yes, we’re going to try to FILL THE INTERNET and bring it down sometime around Thanksgiving.
Yay! I loved it so much last year and I’ve been wondering for about a month or so
I’m in
I just started a new blog so this will make me actually DO something with it.
So happy to hear this! I’d been wondering too.
OK, whew… that explains my dreams last night.
I’m currently debating doing NaBlo again.. hrmmm….
Nice! This should save you a ton of work.
Meanwhile, I have to report that I can’t use the widgets as they stand. TypePad wants the link code to be shorter than 255 characters. I shall have to go about the happy linkage a different way.
Of course, I’m not horribly sad about this because I also liked last year’s badges much, much better. These look kind of sterile and ordinary. I miss the bears, the beavers, the freakin’ guns. I miss that feeling of hysteria, not to mention handcraftedness, which the others evoked so beautifully — and effectively. These badges neither threaten nor wink.
I’m also a little confused. When the event starts, are we supposed to blog at Ning, or at our blogs?
Sorry to be a Problem Participant.
You’re supposed to blog at your blog. This seems to confuse lots of people, which makes me wonder if I’ve screwed up by doing the Ning thing.
I am also hearing about problems with the badges, we might have to whip up some homemade ones again!
Badges for Bloggers? Why i would like one with my email on it in adition to my photo so folks can see that the it’s me with a name and an email?
Also could you print mine with soy ink and lead free adhesive?

I might be crazy (ha! “might!”), but I’m doing this and Get it Down: 31 for 21 (a blog every day marathon in October for Down’s Syndrome Awareness Month). My fingers’ll be nubs by the end. Who’s with me?
Ya know, for all I moaned and complained about having to write every day last year, some of my favorite blog posts (mine and other peoples’) are from last November. Something about *having* to write really frees things up (there’s no such thing as ‘nothing to say’ at 11:00 at night and no blog post).
I did it! Signed up for it this year. Last year I had just started blogging and didn’t know about it until it was partway through November anyway. This year I’m ready! Of course I probably will neglect my other blog during November but hey, sacrifices must be made!
I’m in, and in groups as well (Aussies and Foodies) am excited. I post everyday anyway so it’ll be interesting if something happens to my psyche when I ‘have’ to.
I can’t find the badges on the Ning site. Am feeling naked over hear.
As you were. Found them.
The badges I mean.
it scares me, and more than a little. y’all are braver souls than me.
I don’t know if I will even bother to sign up this year, since I never stopped… The over-achiever in me had to bitch slap the “it’s hard to remember to post everyday” part of me, so I have been posting every day for 11 months now… I set a goal of a year, but I think I may actually keep going indefinitely because it’s such a “normal” thing for me, now… OMG… I am such a loser!

(My blogger account is for a private/intranet work blog, so you won’t see the posts there!)
Speaking of weird full moon dreams…I had a dream last night that I was hanging out in your kitchen (which I have never seen before, but was lovely in my subconcious). You, Jack and Jackson lived in this glamourous condo complex with a big indoor pool and a fancy restaurant in the middle. I kept going on to you about how cool your place was.
Yeah, I’m a freak.
I, too, signed up for NaBloPoMo. See you there!

You wanna talk OCD?! How pathetic am I? I never STOPPED after NaBloPoMo last year. I’ve only missed one day since then – Saint Patrick’s Day (and no, I wasn’t wasted on the green beer; I just forgot).
Since I’m already doing the post-a-day thing, I’m off to sign up for real.
Love!

Oh Lord, I’ve just signed up and my mother-in-law arrives Nov 1st. Now I swore I would never write about our relationship…
I think it was your husband who put it so well:
“Dude, your fucking Mom”.
I’m so in!
Way easier than NaNoWriMo!
I’m looking forward to officially participating this year.
I’m in too, and have been looking around the site and inviting some friends. It’s great. Well done, Eden.
*takes a deep breath* I did it. I joined! Last year, I was a huge follower, and this year, I’ve decided to join the blogging part of the event. Woohoo!
I made it! 899! I found NaBloPoMo quite by accident last year, and was too late to join. But I made it this year!
It’s being a bit cranky with letting me sign up. I suppose I’ll keep trying though.
Thank you, thank you, thank you Ms. Kennedy!
Love,
Year Two Participant, Member #1111, reddirtroad.
I’ll be signing up tonight when I get home. (Site is blocked here at work, dangit!)
I just signed up, too
Are we supposed to post our daily post to Ning, or can we post them where we normally do?
