Let's Panic About Babies! is a book I wrote with the delightful Alice Bradley. You will like it if you are currently pregnant, if you have older children, or even if you live in a child-free environment full of priceless ceramics and seismic equipment. Not just because it's funny, but because you can burn it to stay warm.

I think this photo was taken around 1945, which would make my mom (on the left) 20 and my grandmother 52. They lived on the Iron Range in northern Minnesota. My mom was the third of nine children, seven of whom made it to adulthood. She and my grandmother had the same hands. I sometimes think of them as Finnish peasant hands. I miss holding them.
I love the way my mom's sort of squinting but also sort of winking.
