I Have a Diplomatic Rising Sign

The job ended up being a pleasant sort of nightmare, whittling down almost 200 submissions for 20 or so spots on the dais at BlogHer next week. (The final list of readers is now here.)

"Nightmare" because of the juggling involved. I know so many people who write very well but who couldn't be included for one reason or another having to do with fairness and balance and other things the community-minded conference mistresses value, and rightly so.

"Pleasant" because even though it was excruciating to lop good writers off the list, I'm delighted about the ones who remain, and I was thrilled that through this process I discovered some bloggers I'd never read before, which it turns out is the whole bloody point of this event, introducing the audience to voices they may not have heard. Who knew!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go figure out which skirt I'm going to wear for the reading, the colorful, stiff, peasant-y one or the tweedy pink pencil number. Or both! And five pairs of shoes, dangling from every appendage! To overcompensate for saying no to so many people, I will now shout yes to everything in my closet.

Hey. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do. But I really like the image of you wearing 5 or 6 pairs of shoes. I, also, really think that 7 pairs would be overdone.

Almost got distracted by the mention of shoes. Gotta be careful when there is a mention of shoes cause I get all sweaty and start talking in tongues...

Fantastic line up there. Many of my favourite bloggers and friends. Wish I could have submitted but a little hard to throw my voice that far. From Australia. My kids say I am loud, but yeah...

Is that part of the event going to be streamed?? Again, I'm sad and the teeniest bit bitter that I can't be there to see in person. But '09 will be here soon, right?

Even if I shout yes at everything in my closet, more than half of it shouts no right back at me.

Thanks so much for the effort. And thanks for picking me. I am so excited. I hadn't even thought about shoes. Something else to freak out about.

I'm still in some weirder-than-usual kind of shock that my name is on this list. And in the spirit of inclusion, I invite any one of those people who weren't chosen for whatever reason to join me up there AND HOLD MY HAND LEST I EXPIRE. ;)

Also, I may wear a dress. No idea why. It just struck me last night as a good idea.

It was work for me so Lord knows how difficult it was for you to decide.

Despite my nerves it will be fun. And now I'm thinking that perhaps I should find something presentable to wear.

Ooo, I vote for the pink pencil skirt. It won't be as comfy, but it will look very cute.

And have fun!

Fantastic idea would be to post the 180 submissions (somewhere out there) that almost made it so we can give them props for shining out of the 40 bajigillion posts this year.

I am seriously more stoked about the community keynote than any other aspect of the conference agenda. and that's saying something.

your work is done, and it is GOOD. Now, pick out some shoes that are easy to kick off and sit back on and watch what you have made happen.

i promise, it's going to be incredible.

That's one hell of a lineup.

(Are you going to make a tee shirt out of your new Fussy logo over there -->? Because you really should.)

I hve added you to my blogroll.

As for shoes for the event. Go with some "hooker shoes." Great conversation starter. :)
